AnyDay.com
Last year, two online calendar leaders were snatched up by AOL and Microsoft, and that left AnyDay.com as the best-equipped calendar that exists independently. Designed by some of the people behind the Lotus Organizer PIM, the site includes an integrated calendar, address book, reminder service, and task manager with an event directory that lets you blend in your favorite sports events or TV shows. The site hasn’t yet implemented enough synchronization tools for PIMs and PDAs, but that will come; in the meantime, its great online interface is worth a test drive.

Napster
No new Web service of the past six months has been as mind-boggling or thought-provoking as this online music site/service/software, which lets you tap into the PCs of all other Napster users currently online to search through and copy the MP3 music files they’ve collected while you share your own. The ramifications for copyright violation, security, and even online sociology are huge and will take quite a while to sort out, but in the meantime it’s an astonishingly easy-to-use and well-crafted setup that has captured the imaginations of hundreds of thousands of high-bandwidth Web users (most are in college) who are sharing a rapidly growing pool of songs that has already surged past the 2-terabyte mark.

Club Photo
Of all the places to post and share your photos online, Club Photo, a Editors’ Choice, is the best. Its interface makes it easy to deal with many photos at a time, whether you want to create albums or send them out via e-mail. Additionally, the site’s Album-to-Go download lets you view your photos on a Palm device.

seeUthere
Like its archrival, the excellent Evite.com, seeUthere helps you organize events online, but it also tackles larger-scale meetings and includes tools for ticketing. That means you can use it for things like charity fund-raisers, conferences, and reunions and you can make contact with your list of invitees via fax, letter, postcard, or e-mail. People can RSVP by phone, and the site can handle credit card transactions. (There are fees for all these services.) Reporting tools are very strong, so you can easily keep track of how your event is shaping up. The site is another example of how the Web is simplifying tasks that can be particularly onerous to perform the old-fashioned way.

Shutterfly
Digital online photo processing is big news these days. Among the many sites that can help you manage your digital photos and sell you prints of them as well, Shutterfly--whose services will also be available through many partners--does the best job so far, especially with image uploading, a process that can be tedious at many other sites.
